Group Work

I began some of my contributing research by filming some human interaction secretly when I went back to Exeter for the weekend. I turned three of the videos into screen shots and analysed how the people interacted with each other in different scenarios..

I also went onto recording overheard conversations so we could evaluate the visual and non visual side of interaction..

I wanted to find different ways of representing these non visual interactions visually.. So I began with trying to sense the emotion from each person and connecting a colour to the mood to make a type of colour-mood chart. I also picked up on the emotions from the other conversation and created a face collage to reflect this. This practical experimentation was what we needed to help us to visualise possible outcomes that might work well. I also feel that our group has been working really well together and I am enjoying it!

Group Work

After making some decisions on what we’d like to do we began to do some of our own research whilst we were apart. As we were quite interested in booking making and paper folding I started to look into this..

There were several book binding techniques such as: Saddle stitched, perfect bound, loop stitched, tape bound, sew bound, spiral bound, hard cover, Japanese binding etc..

Once we’d come back together as a group and had a tutorial we decided that we really need to narrow our many ideas down! So, as it was useful before, we drew up another spider diagram:

IMG_20140305_0001We decided to focus on the interactions between strangers; how people greet each other, facial expressions, acknowledgements, body language, boundaries, social etiquette etc..
We would collect research from different places such as bus stops, shops, pubs/clubs, toilets, elevators, uni/halls, queues etc..
Narrowing it down to something more specific was really useful to us to really help point us in the right direction of where to go with collecting data and focusing less on the final outcome. We hoped that from researching, our outcome would more so just fall into place instead of planning too far ahead and forgetting about content! So now it was time again to go our separate ways for a few days and start each collecting data to bring back to each other when re-grouping again…

Meeting my group!

After meeting my group (Muirghein and Enfys) at the start of this term we began doing a huge brainstorm to see what we were all good at and where we could go with the project.

We found it really useful to see if we had any overlapping similarities. We looked at skills and subject areas that we had in common. After that we all agreed to look at ‘People’ more closely; such as conversations, strangers, interactions and moods. We then did a quick brainstorm of possible outcome/process/content ideas and came up with things such as book making, overheard conversations, using traditional techniques (e.g letterpress, printmaking etc), mapping etc. At this point our group was working really well together and we had lots of ideas that we were bouncing off of each other, the next task would probably be to narrow it down and really focus on one or two things.
